Finding an Ob/Gyn Provider at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center

Provider Descriptions

General Obstetrician-Gynecologist:

These physicians can provide care for normal pregnancy, routine gynecology and family planning, noncancerous gynecologic problems including gynecologic surgery, and routine reproductive health care. They also care for a woman’s overall health. In addition, some physicians focus on particular areas, such as alternatives for treatment of fibroid tumors.

Midwife:

Certified nurse-midwives care for women during normal pregnancy, provide routine gynecological exams and birth control, and can provide some overall health care for women. All midwives with privileges at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt work collaboratively with one of our faculty physicians.

High Risk Pregnancy Specialist:

These physicians care for women with complicated pregnancies; that is, multiple pregnancies, a history of preterm labor or birth, or medical complications such as diabetes.

Genetic Counselors:

These professionals help assess the risks of abnormalities in a pregnancy, and counsel prospective parents on their options in screening, testing, and the health of the fetus. They can also provide counseling prior to pregnancy on the risk of genetic disorders. In addition, they help evaluate the health and treatment options for children with genetic disorders, and coordinate their healthcare.

Gynecologic Oncology Specialist:

These physicians care for women with gynecologic cancer, and for certain precancerous conditions. They may also perform complicated gynecologic surgery where cancer is not involved.

Urogynecologist:

Cares for women who suffer from bladder control problems, or with relaxation of the pelvic organs.

Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Specialist:

Provides comprehensive treatment for infertility, including in vitro fertilization. They also treat recurrent pregnancy loss and hormonally related health problems.
